The Bradley House is a full service bar that serves
appetizers, salads, sandwiches and daily specials. It has been
evolving since the day it opened as just a bar November 19, 2000.
The basic philosophy is to give customers a fun dining experience
while encouraging a social atmosphere. The goal of the entire staff
is to use what tools we have available to make our customers
happy.
The Bradley family owns the Bradley House, which has been
part of the Alaskan restaurant scene since the mid 1960s. In 1963
they bought a two-bedroom house with a strawberry garden in back,
which is the current Bradley House site.
In
1965 Mr. Bradley built a second floor, which served as the new
family home. Below he opened Brad's TV, a post office, a bar and
rented space to a barber. Patrons often traveled to the bar on snow
machines and wanted something hot to eat. Mrs. Bradley, who was
Japanese, would cook meals in the house kitchen and bring them down
for customers to eat. Within a short period word got around about
the food and more tables were added and soon Oriental Gardens began
to grow.
Through out the years there was spontaneous construction,
which created a maze like effect inside. By the time the building
completed its growth it was a total of 25,000 square feet and had
been in business over 25 years. In May of 1996 the restaurant burned
and was completely destroyed.
The decision of what to do next was almost impossible. All
types of ideas were looked at and eventually it was the pressure to
save the liquor license that forced the construction. At first it
was going to be a 1,000 square foot bar. But since there is so much
liability involved with selling liquor a kitchen had to be included.
The building settled at 2,300 square feet and The Bradley House was
born.
Since opening, business has been brisk. Phase two of the
Bradley House is to increase the size of the dining room and
kitchen. This is estimated to happen in 2002. However, if business
is bursting at the seams the size will increase sooner. Phase three
is to build a banquet facility to seat up to a maximum of 200. Phase
four is to develop another restaurant concept possibly teppan-yaki.
The timeline for all this is within 7 years.
We
hope you take the opportunity to come visit us and grow with us.
